Bird Watching Clubs, Associations & Society
|
Bird Watching Clubs and Bird SocietyBird watching clubs and bird watching society are sort of the same, but may not be. Our language can get very confusing at times, at least we seem to make it that way. Webster's dictionary defines club as a group of people organized for a social, literary, or other purpose, bird watching club fits. Society is defined as an organized group of persons associated together for a common purpose, bird watching fits, again. When I think of clubs, I think of a local common interest. When I think of a society, I think of national group of people with a common interest, with regional facilities. I know this doesn't help much in defining the differences of the two type groups. Like I said, they may be one in the same, or they may not. Now here's where it can gets really sticky. Bird Clubs may or may not cover bird watching, whereas, bird watching clubs are usually exclusively birdwatchers. The same goes for a bird society, go figure. Bottom line here is if you are a social type person, or new to bird watching, a local or national club or organization with a local branch may be will worth joining. The help and information may save you a lot of time and money, not to mention the fun and socializing with people of a common interest. Club OpportunitiesBird Watcher's Digest partners with bird clubs all across the Americas. They are diehard birdwatchers and like to help other birdwatchers get connected with local clubs to get involved helping club organizers plan socials, trips, lectures, and setting up youth groups. Can you imagine your young people out in the field, fascinated with birds, instead of sitting in from of a computer or TV? Bird Watcher's Digest also has a fluid listing program for finding or adding bird watching clubs, on their website. Just go to Bird Club Finder on their website. Just so you know, this reclusive bird watcher has not subscribed to BWD, nor talk to anyone there, I just like what they say and offer. Now I'm sure that BWD doesn't have every bird watching club on their finder list, so you may have others in your area listed in the phone book, or in the society section of your newspaper, or your local activities or social magazines. Bird Watching SocietiesWhen I think of a bird watching society, I think of the National Audubon Society, but there are more than that, example. The National Bird-Feeding Society, backed by The Wild Bird Centers of America, concentrates on backyard birding and wild bird care. Bird societies can range from cage birds, exotic birds and bird hunting, use care when selecting. Good Luck at finding the right bird watching club or society for you. |
