Bird Watching Videos and Software Overview

Bird watching videos may not be quite what you think. Some may be about a bird watching trip or documentary videos, but many bird watching videos will be about different birds, identification, their habitat, characteristics, and songs or sounds they make or what you need to get started. More informational than marketing bird watching trips in exotic places. Don't forget, libraries are an excellent place to find the bird watching video you want to buy, no cost until you find just the right bird watching video.

What I'd be looking for is a collection of bird watching videos that include how-to information for birders from novice to expert. These bird watching videos may provide advice on topics ranging from how to get started in backyard birding to how to identify birds by sound alone. Teach you which landscape will attract birds, and what sorts of observation techniques and gear you can use to improve your birding skills.

Learning wild bird song identification can be overwhelming, especially when you're a beginner. But there are plenty of video and audio resources out there to help you learn songs much easier. I've head one of the favorites is the "Birding By Ear" CD series. I'm not familiar with it, but be sure to get the right area ( western, eastern, central or southern ) version of it, if the bird watch CD doesn't come with all areas included.

As far as bird watching or birding software goes, this area is limited, but can be wonderful for the birdwatcher. First, most serious birdwatchers like to keep a field journal of their bird sightings, consider a bird watching software that can organize your information and allow you to produce reports any way your want them, such as: wild bird sightings for a pacific area, or wild bird sightings for a specific bird, or wild bird sightings for a specific time of year, etc.

Another bird watching software is a bird identification and song or call program, or one of each. Now here's were this birding software can get real interesting, put it on a PDA or MP3 player and take it with you into the field. Now that is a bird watching software worth it's weight in gold. AND, trust me from experience, stops the arguments.
