Birding Digital Camera Binoculars

My pros and cons about digital camera binoculars. Anytime you combine two or more pieces of equipment, and it sounds good, you have a growth period. Sometimes it eventually works, sometimes it doesn't. I my case, again, the jury is still out, however, I'm hoping. This is one I'd like to see work. A digital camera binocular would be a great addition to bird watching.

Here's what I'm looking for, a pair of binoculars that has a digital camera that will give me a quality picture that can be cropped and enlarge the picture without breaking down in quality. Think about it, a digital camera binocular can give you high quality optics, find the bird, then take the picture. No hurrying to change from binocular to camera, nor binocular and camera around your neck. What a great idea. I have found only one digital camera binocular that may work, but it's a little expensive, just a little.

The digital camera binoculars is becoming very popular and makes for a wonderful combination, especially for bird watching and wildlife. Get the best close-up view of a bird, or for that matter, other wildlife including dolphin and whales, sporting events, I'm a diehard Seahark fan, find the shot, take it and process the good ones and delete the others when I get home. The thing I like about digital cameras is I'm not wasting money developing useless pictures. The delete button doesn't cost me a thing.

Now lets talk about the quality digital camera binoculars that have some good ratings by those that use the digital camera binoculars. For the money, the Bushnell Digital Camera Binoculars line, specifically the Bushnell Instant Replay Digital Binoculars with 8-power magnification, with what you see is what you get, image. Another is the latest Celestron Vistapix line of digital camera binoculars. Below are ones that have good reviews.

Bushnell Instant Replay Binoculars 8x30, 5 mp, List $280.76, Model #118325,
seems to be a favorite, has an 11-foot close focus, and can even capture a short 5 to 60 second video clip, no sound. It has SD slot for up to 2 GB card, 1.5 LCD with 8x digital, and is a roof prism compact digital camera binocular in olive and white case. Not bad on pixels, should give good prints, but I doubt you can enlarge beyond 8x10. There are 3.2 mp and 2.1 mp versions available.

Bushnell ImageView Binoculars 8x30 3.2 mp List $261.86, Model #11-0833 & 11-0834 (olive/white or darkgreen/black).
These two digital camera binoculars are the same, just different colors. This compact 14.8 ounce digital camera binocular has BK7 optics, fully coated, fold down eye cups, SD slot for up to 1 GB, focus to 10', USB port, software, 19 MG internal memory, AVI audio/video 30 seconds. These digital camera binoculars is a good choice for those who want regular size pictures you can actually print, but don't want to spend too much money. This model offer many additional features. You can shoot video, with a flip LCD screen and it will attach it to a tripod.

Bushnell's statement: (A good binocular can enhance your view; Image View binoculars will do the same for your memories. We've combined the high magnification and powerful performance of a Bushnell® binocular with the electronic technology of a compact digital camera, giving you the option to capture and save any sight you experience. Available in a variety of models and compact enough to carry in a pocket, the Image View is ideal for sports fans, outdoor enthusiasts, adventure travelers, anyone with a desire to view and record whatever experiences come their way. Why settle for magnifying life when you can remember it for all time?)

No, I'm not on the payroll of Bushnell, but they are not bad binoculars for the money, I have a standard zoom 7x-20x in my fishing backpack. They must of got on the bandwagon early, probably just after Pentax started, unfortunately I think Pentax discontinued that line.

Another popular digital camera binocular is the Celestron Vistapix 8x22, 3 mp, List $251.00, Model #72218.
Closeup and long shot capable with a 8x removable lens, 1.5" LCD flip out screen with 8x digital power, SD card slot for up to 1 mb, 3 min. video with sound, software, and of all things it has an FM radio. It is a good blend of camera and binocular.

Less expensive digital camera binocular is the Celestron Vistapix 8x32, 3 mp, List $202.95, Model #72214.
No close up capability the 8x lens is not removable, 1.5" LCD flip out screen with 4x digital power, SD card slot for up to 1 mb, 3 min. video with no sound, software and no FM radio. This digital camera binocular will have better light gathering than the 8x22.

This is the digital camera binocular I have my eyes on:
Barska Point N' View 8x32, 5 mp, List $280.76, Model #AH10950.
This digital camera binocular has BK7 optics, multi-fully coated, SD slot for up to 2 GB, focus to 16,5', USB port, software, AVI audio/video) 60 seconds.

This digital camera binocular looks like a good choice for me. I'll give myself some time, doing more research and checking reviews. Since I've never owned or used one, I'm really in the dark to give much advice. I'm not really recommending any of the above digital camera binocular, just sharing my own thoughts.
