The Family Business Claude Skill

We built our entire family business advisory system into a file you can install into your own Claude in about thirty seconds. It is free, there is no email required, and it is the first one of these in the family business world as far as we can tell.

Once it is installed, Claude stops giving you generic business advice and starts working the way we work. You describe your situation in plain words and it tells you which of the nine situations you are actually in, which is usually not the one you asked about.

What it does

It knows the nine situations, because they are the only nine that ever show up:

It scores you on five things, out of 100, with the three inputs costing you the most points and the one highest-return fix:

Owner Dependence Score. How much of the company is actually you. This is the number that drives your valuation, your sale terms and whether you can take a month off.
Next Gen Readiness Score. Judgment, capital literacy, people, ownership mentality. Not knowledge of the business, which is the easy part everybody spends all their time on.
Transfer Readiness Score. Succession is four separate transfers and doing them out of order is what blows it up. This tells you if you have them backwards.
Governance Maturity Score. Four questions. If they are answered in writing you have governance. If you have sixty pages and they are not, you do not.
Family Conflict Risk Index. The odds your family stops speaking, which is the actual failure mode.

The part nobody else has

It will run your exact situation twice. Once from the parent’s chair, in the parent’s language, and once from the next generation’s chair, in theirs, with no hedging in either one. Then it shows you where the two accounts actually agree, which is almost always more than either side thinks, and the one sentence each side has never heard the other say.

It works because in a family business the kid is negotiating about a company and the parent is defending a life. Until both are written down side by side, neither person can see that.

It will also draft the actual conversation for you. Not talking points. The opening sentence, the two objections you are going to get, the response to each, and the one line not to say.

And it will not make numbers up

This is the part we care about most. The skill carries the real market data with the caveat attached to every figure, so it gives you a range instead of a confident number it invented.

It also carries a list of the six statistics this industry repeats that do not hold up, including the famous one about 30 percent surviving to the second generation, and it will correct you if you quote them. We would rather be the ones who checked.

What it will not do

Worth saying out loud, because the limits are the reason to trust the rest:

It will not give you a valuation for a company whose financials it has not seen. It gives a range and the adjustments.
It will not give legal, tax or investment advice. It explains the shape of the thing and tells you who to call.
It will not pick a side in a family fight. It writes both chairs and hands you a process.
It will not tell you to sell. That decision belongs to the people who have to live with it.
It will not quote a statistic it cannot source.

An AI can still get things wrong, so check anything that matters with your attorney and your CPA. We are not a broker, not a bank, and not a private equity fund with a clock, which is why this thing is free and why it will tell you to keep the business.
